Minneapolis International Airport (MSP)

Airport-sizedMinneapolis–St Paul International Airport (MSP)

Minneapolis–St Paul International Airport is one of Delta Air Lines’ major hubs. Its importance in the Delta network give the airport one of the highest number of non-stop routes per capita of any US airport. In addition to the long list of destinations throughout the US and Canada, the airport has routes to several destinations in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, along with 5 European cities and Tokyo.  Here’s what you need to know about Minneapolis–St Paul International Airport:

Getting Around: MSP airport has two terminal buildings: Terminal 1 (Lindbergh) and the much smaller Terminal 2 (Humphrey).  Terminal 2 is home to Southwest and Sun Country airlines while almost all other airlines are in Terminal 1.  The terminals are connected by a free light rail transit system though its unlikely that travellers would connect between airlines at the different terminals.  Within Terminal 1, each of the seven concourses (A-G) are connected and walkable – although the distances can be significant.  Between the 2 farther gates, the walk would be a little over a mile, although there are trams and moving walkways.

Relaxing: With its large footprint and square layout, MSP has taken the possibility of a long walk and turned it into…a long walk.  MSP partnered with the American Heart Association on a campaign to encourage travellers to complete the 1.4 mile loop of the terminal to encourage healthy living. The airport also has a unique experience in the PGA store, located in the airport mall.  It offers fee-based access to golf simulators, putting greens and instruction.(

Dining: TwinBurger on Concourse G is an off-shoot of legendary local establishment, Matt’s Bar.  Order the Jucy Lucy, a cheese-stuff burger (yes, the cheese is inside the patty).  For a slightly more refined experience, Mimosa (also on Concourse G) offers a French style raw bar and brasserie. The favorite is the Wisconsin Trout Almandine, which combines French style with Midwest cuisine.

WiFi: Free 2-hour sessions can be renewed as often as needed, upon viewing a brief commercial.  Premium wifi is available at faster speeds and with no ads for $2.95 for 24-hours.  Use network name MSP Free Wifi.
