Newark, NY - Liberty International Airport

Newark-2Newark, NY – Liberty International Airport (EWR)

Newark Liberty International Airport, is one of the 3 main airports servicing New York City (along with JFK and LaGuardia), along with being a major international hub for United Airlines. The airport offers quick transportation to Manhattan and points north, or Philadelphia and points south via the AirTrain. Newark opened in 1928 as the nation's first airfield and commercial terminal.  It added "Liberty" to its name in 2002, in honor of the victims of September 11.

Getting Around: The airport has 3 terminals (A, B, C) in a horseshoe pattern. United operates out of all 3 terminals with exclusive use of Terminal C. All international airlines are housed in Terminal B, while most domestic airlines are in Terminal A, except Delta which operates from Terminal B. There is a bus services that connects the Terminals A and C within the secure environment. It runs from near A28 to near C71, but does not operate at all hours.  The alternative is to leave the secure environment and use the free AirTrain which connects all 3 terminals along with the parking garage and the Amtrak station.

Relaxing: Like most major airports, there is a spa available (Departures Spa has 2 locations in Terminal C) but beyond that, there aren’t many hidden gems for peace and quiet. However, thanks to a recent overhaul of Terminal C all the restaurant feature iPads at the seats.  They are used for not only ordering your food and tracking your flight, but you can also surf the web and play games.

Dining: Following the renovation of Terminal C, a series of new locally inspired restaurants were introducing, features menus designed by well-known chefs. Nonna’s Meatball Kitchen near gate C120 offer a variety of meal ball dishes includes pasta and meatball heros of every style and flavor.  For seafood lovers, check out SRF Bar (near C70) which provides Jersey Shore style seafood snacks.

WiFi: Using the “Boingo Hotspot” network name, 30 minutes of free service is available after a brief video ad. Sessions can be extended by watching additional ads.  Paid service is also available.
