It is important to take certain precautions when traveling to protect yourself and your belongings. Unfortunately, a recent discovery has made keeping your valuables secure a little tricky. A flaw in some hotel door locks has been discovered, that makes it quick and easy for a criminal to break into the room.

Here are some tips to keep you and your personal items safe.

  • You are at your most vulnerable when in the shower or sleeping, so when in the room always use the extra security chain or latch.
  • Always use the in-room safe. Never leave valuables laying around the room, always take them with you or place them in the safe.
  • Only travel with what you really need. Don't bring along extra expensive jewelry or all your gadgets. Take what you plan to use, what you can wear and what can easily be locked away.

A thief can build a simple device that allows him or her to hack some electronic locks used in hotels nationwide. The lock provider, Onity, has offered to upgrade the hotel room locks, but at a price. Watch the video below for further details on the issue.
